196th Street Rail Overpass Project (Surrey, City of Langley)
This project would add road capacity in an area forecasted to become increasingly congested, providing substantial general traffic relief to nearby corridors such as Fraser Highway and 200th Street. In addition, a 196th Street Overpass would provide an option for Fraser Highway and 200thth Street during rail events. The combination of the 196th Street Overpass with the 192nd Street Overpass and an east-west connector on 54th Avenue is expected to provide substantial traffic relief in the area. These three projects are collectively known as the "Combo Project."
This project may be complemented by a Rail Crossing Information System, which would notify drivers traveling on nearby routes of an incoming train, and enable them to re-route to the new overpass.
Construction of the 196th Street, 192nd Street and 54th Avenue Rail Overpass Projects is expected to get underway in early 2012, and to be complete by December 2013.
