152^nd Street is a major north-south traffic artery linking the rapidly growing areas of South Surrey and White Rock with the rest of Surrey. Due to population growth in Surrey, 152^nd Street traffic is forecast to almost double to nearly 40,000 vehicles per day by 2021. Combined with other initiatives in the area—including closure of the street-level crossing at 148^th Street by means of constructing an access road to 144^th Street, and the improvements for whistling cessation at 168th Street—this project will combine to eliminate train whistling for the majority of the railway corridor through Surrey.
